The Texas Knifemakers’ Guild is served by a Board of Directors composed of five directors per region in the State of Texas, with the regions being North, South, and West. The 2023 Board of Directors was composed of the following Directors: North: Jamie Herring (2023-2024), Jason Boone (2023-2024), Ronnie Packard (2022-2023), Gene DuBois (2022-2023), and Shane Stainton (2022-2023). South: Jason Wilder (2023-2024), Jack Thatcher (2023-2024), James Huse (2022-2023), Terry Dunn (2022-2023), and Brett Noake (2022-2023). West: Bryan Borton (2023-2024), Dan Girard (2023-2024), Jason Fry (2022-2023), Jim Poor (2022-2023), Dale White (2022-2023).

Each director is elected for a two year rotating term with the election being held in December and terms beginning in January. This year there were three positions per region up for election. Here is a timeline of the election process and results:

Dec 01 – Directors Gene DuBois (N), James Huse (S), Terry Dunn (S), Jason Fry (W), Jim Poor (W), and Dale White (W) indicated their intent to seek re-election. Directors Shane Stainton (N), Ronnie Packard (N), and Brett Noake (S) expressed their desire to not seek reelection.
Dec 04 – An email was sent to TKG membership requesting nominations. Each nominee was then vetted to confirm eligibility and contacted to confirm their desire and willingness to serve.
Dec 12 – Region-specific ballots were made and sent via email to members in each region. The ballots each had four questions: (1) Please select up to three people to serve as Board Members for the Texas Knifemakers’ Guild in your region. (2) Did you attend a Texas Knifemakers’ Guild sponsored event this year? (3) Are you able to host a Hammer-In at your shop this year? (4) Do you have any suggestions for how to make the TKG better?
Dec 14 – The election ended at 6pm and results were collected.
North Region results: (38 responses): Johnny Bailey (5 votes, or 13.16%), Jeff Davidson (28 votes, or 73.68%), Gene DuBois (27 votes, or 71.05%), Josh Fisher (11 votes, or 28.95%), Eland Green (10 votes, or 26.32%, Keven John (3 votes, or 7.89%), Jared Johnson (2 votes, or 5.26%), Aaron Lawvere (7 votes, or 18.42%), Rob Logan (4 votes, or 10.53%), Steve Suesens (9 votes, or 23.68%)

South Region results: (40 responses): Terry Dunn (33 votes, or 82.5%), James Huse (36 votes, or 90%), Chad Jones (8 votes, or 20%), Chris Jones (9 votes, or 22.5%), Mike Turner (19 votes, or 47.5%), William Zermeno (6 votes, or 15%)

West Region results: (21 responses): Jason Fry (13 votes, or 61.9%), Walter Kemp (11 votes, or 52.38%), Tommy Lynn (4 votes, or 19.05%), Jim Poor (18 votes, or 85.71%), Dale White (12 votes, or 57.14%)

Dec 14 – Election results were submitted to the Board and the Board voted to accept the following nominees who won at least 50% of the vote: Davidson (N), DuBois (N), Dunn (S), Huse (S), Fry (S), Poor (S), White (S). There were only two nominees who earned at least 50% of the vote in the North and South regions so the Board voted to hold a runoff election in those regions to include the three candidates who received the next highest votes.
Dec 15 – Candidates were contacted and notified about the election results and the upcoming runoff. Josh Fisher (N) and Chris Jones (S) removed their names from the runoff ballot.
Dec 18 – Region-specific ballots were made and sent via email to members in the North and South Regions for the runoff election.
Dec 19 – The runoff election ended at 6pm and results were collected.
North Region results: (43 responses): Eland Green (18 votes, or 41.86%), Steve Suesens (26 votes, or 58.14%)
South Region results: (50 responses): Chad Jones (27 votes, or 54%), Mike Turner (23 votes, or 46%)
Dec 19 – The Board of Directors voted unanimously to accept the election results.
